Have you ever.. by Nakomii Have you ever.. by Nakomii
Looked Karma dead in the eyes?

probably have now. LOL

just finished her body, and the wonderful and talented SkinnedFawxTaxidermy did the head. c: I opted for poseable since she was just to pretty to be floppy. So i spent the last few hours getting those wires in there. Shes glaring into the monotone nothing-ness of my wall right now. i swear shes gonna move every time i look back at her, and shes gonna give me this look like.. "what, you forgot i wasnt dead?" and go rip up the curtains or break something. you know, fox stuff.
And im happy she came home now, there was a big issue with her eyes. There were ONLY SUPPOSED TO BE TWO SETS MADE but instead a few more were made without permission. =/ It meant a lot that i could have these eyes for her. So remember that.

These stuffed foxes you do are lovely. They're so lifelike, it's like they are given a new personality... Might I ask what made you want to make these, and how long they stay in good condition?

If theyre tanned well they do stay in good condition for years, lifesizes last even longer, sometimes over 80 years, im sure they last much longer but I dont have anything to go off of. Soft mounts, due to being held, moved, and exposed to air and not glued down dont last as long. They havent been around long enough for anyone to see yet, but so far I dont think anyones has completely fallen apart due to age that I know of! (this girl I dont think was tanned properly so she is falling apart, but thats the only reason why)
I didnt make this one in particular, just her body, but I love art and I love animals, so whats a better way than to preserve them forever? It just kind of happened, and I was somewhat good at it, so I kept on doing it. :)

Wow, I had no idea they lasted so long. And that's cool. <': I don't normally get happy about taxidermy (dead animals make me cry ;u; ) but I do love that you're making something positive. Good job. :iconclapplz:

I adore her and all but.... did she die of natural causes?

:iconnakomii:
Nakomii Featured By Owner Sep 22, 2014  Hobbyist Artisan Crafter
No she did not, 90% of taxidermy animals dont die of natural causes, and when they do, its from being eaten alive by another animal, or getting hit by a car which is drawn out and extremely painful. I opt for the more humane choice, a bullet to the head and they are gone in an instant. "natural causes" are never anything full of happiness and butterflies sadly. =/

I must say I am curious to know if you knew any of these foxes in life. They're a beautiful animals and I'm glad you respect them and I respect your work. Though I'm not in the taxidermy community in any way and I do get VERY curious to know if people actually knew these creatures at one point or do most of you get them from various sources already passed on?

She's gorgeous! Was she leucistic?

No she isnt a leucistic, those are white animals with black noses/tearducts. She is a ranched fox so she was bred, she is a color mutation which is basically just a very washed out/dilute red fox. Its called Fire and ice. :)

Ohh okay, I was under the impression that the "pure" leucistic animals had liver coloured tear ducts, noses, and paw pads, not any black at all. Still a gorgeous fox, and it's always neat to learn of a different coat mutation :)

If the nose and tear ducts are pink, and the animal is white, its albino. :) There are liver animals out there though! I have a true liver coyote as well.
Pure leucistic is stark white, with black noses and such! Always so interesting to see those since they are so incredibly rare..

400 is around the average price, anything cheaper will usually be very bad quality. You get what you pay for!!
